Batala inspector dismissed for undertrial’s death

DIG Border Range AK Mittal has terminated the services of inspector Naurang Singh, who along with his junior team, was allegedly involved in the abduction and killing of Bikramjit Singh, a resident of Algon Kothi village in Tarn Taran, on May 5.

Three ASIs Gulshanbir Singh, Sawinder and Baljit Singh and head constables Gurpreet Singh, Jagjit Singh and Lakhwinder Singh were earlier dismissed.
The deceased Bikramjit had been jailed for 20 years in a murder case at the Amritsar Central Jail and was to be released in four months.  On May 15, after an investigation on a complaint by the deceased’ brother, Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh had told mediapersons Bikramjit was whisked away by the Batala police without following the lawful procedure, interrogated inhumanly whereupon he died in custody.

The inspector has been dismissed under Sections 364 (kidnapping for ransom), 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence of offence) of the IPC.
