From Tihar jail in Delhi under tight security, Hawara was brought to the court of subdivisional judicial magistrate Amandeep Singh after formal arrest in the case relating to the explosion near Bhaniarawala's house on January 9, 2005, at Dhamana village in Nurpur Bedi jurisdiction.

Hawara faces charges that include attempt to murder and violation of the Explosives Act. Some of the accused have been acquitted. Hawara requested the judge to run the trial through videoconferencing to save him the inconvenience of travelling to Punjab from Delhi.

The prosecution wanted to file the charge sheet against Hawara in the court. The next hearing is on January 20. Outside the court, Hawara told the media he supported the demand of former militant Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa for the release of Sikh militants languishing in jails.

Unplanned divider ruins charm of McLeod Road
