Now, you will wake up in a spic-and-span city every day. Courtesy, the municipal corporation, (MC), which will be launching a unique cleanliness drive called "night sanitation", has decided to launder the city at night.

MC commissioner DPS Kharbanda said around 50-60 workers would clean different areas of the city including the tourist places everyday from 9 pm till dawn.

"The rush of tourist remains high during daytime. They often face sanitation problems. We have decided to clean the city at night, so that they can roam around in a clean Amritsar in the morning," said Khanbanda.
In spite of being a tourist city, Amritsar has been facing criticism over hygiene and sanitation issues. Starting from water-logging in monsoons to scattered garbage heaps, tourists often complain to the MC of poor civic conditions.
"I have just joined a couple of days back. My aim is to make the city clean. We have held meetings on the issue and results will come soon," said the commissioner.
However, the MC also suffers from fund crunch and many of its development works are progressing at a snail's pace. Kharbanda hopes that collection of house tax will streamline the fund crisis.
