Class-9 girl abducted, raped in Tarn Taran

A Class-9 student was allegedly kidnapped and raped by two youths at Dhotta village in the district when she was on her way to school on Friday.


On the basis of the victim’s statement, the police on Monday registered a case under sections 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping or abducting woman), 366-A and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Verowal police station against the accused, identified as Raju and Hardip Singh of Kotli Saru Khan village.

According to the police, the 15-year-old girl was on her way to the government school at Nagoke when the duo abducted her and took her to a photo studio at Dhotta, where they allegedly raped her. Later, they dumped her near Kotli Saru Khan village and fled.

When the girl did not return home after school hours, her parents began searching for her. They found her lying on the roadside on the outskirts of Kotli Saru Khan village. In her statement to the police, she claimed that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident.

`Verowal police station house officer (SHO) Parmajit Singh Virdi said the duo had been identified by the victim. Tarn Taran superintendent of police (SP, detective) Harvinder Singh said a medical examination of the victim had been conducted and raids were being conducted to nab the accused.
