Congmen prepare for grand welcome to Bajwa on Mar 16

Preparations for according a welcome to newly appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa have commenced with a meeting of Congressmen of Amritsar and Tarn Taran held here on Saturday.

Bajwa will be coming to Amritsar on March 16 for paying obeisance at the Golden Temple. He will assume charge of his new post at Chandigarh on March 18.

The meeting to discuss the preparations was presided over by Fateh Jung Bajwa, brother of the Gurdaspur MP. It was attended by the presidents and office-bearers of Amritsar (rural) district Congress committee (DCC), Amritsar urban DCC and Tarn Taran DCC.

Among those present were Amritsar (rural) chief Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Amritsar DCC (urban) president Jugal Kishore Sharma and Tarn Taran DCC chief Dharamvir Agnihotri.

Former deputy speaker Darbari Lal, MLA OP Soni, former mayor Sunil Datti, Harminder Gill and other senior Congress leaders were also present.

"The meeting was basically held to finalise the programme for the new PPCC chief's visit and to fix certain duties," Ajnala told HT.

He said that as per the schedule, the Gurdsapur DCC members will receive Bajwa at the railway station when he arrives in the Shatabdi Express from Delhi on March 16. Thereafter, he will be taken in a procession to the Golden Temple.

"Members of the Amritsar DCC (rural) and Tarn Taran DCC will escort Bajwa from the railway station to Hall Gate. Thereafter, Amritsar urban DCC members will take him to the Golden Temple, where he will pay obeisance", added Ajnala.

Bajwa will also pay homage to martyrs at Jallainwala Bagh and go to Durgiana Mandir. He will also be going to Ram Tirath before departing for his hometown of Qadian.
