Convicted docs in kidney racket move  HC for bail

Dr HS Bhutani and Dr Arjinder Singh, sentenced to five years in jail in November last year by Amritsar trial court in infamous kidney scam unearthed by the Punjab Police in 2002, moved  Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday seeking regular bail.


Taking up petition, the high court issued notice of motion to the Punjab government for February 28.Both the doctors were charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code for fraud and under Transplantation of Human Organs Act and a case was registered in 2002 in Amristar.

They submitted before the court through their counsel that there was no direct evidence against them and the trial court had failed in its judgment.

It was a case wherein a kidney was taken under pressure from Bagicha Singh, 17, a resident of Sidhwan Bet village of Ludhiana, and was transplanted to a Chandigarh resident Suresh Kumar.
