Guided by the objective to encourage diversity in agriculture, the Punjab government is offering subsidies on agricultural machinery to ensure that the farmers are able to earn rich rewards from their vocation.

Disclosing this, Amritsar deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat said those interested in availing the scheme could send in their applications by November 30.

"The interested farmers can add a demand draft of `5,000 to the prescribed pro forma and send it to the chief agriculture officer,"the DC said.

He added that the maximum limit for the subsidies would be `30,000 per unit, while for custom hiring enterprises and cooperative societies the subsidy would be 50%.

He further said the subsidy was being given on 34 machines.
