Punjab local bodies minister Anil Joshi on Wednesday asked the officials concerned to expedite the work on Rs. 600 crore sewerage project in Amritsar.
The minister said this after holding a detailed meeting with the officials of various departments here. Sewerage is being laid in various parts of the city under the project undertaken by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Joshi stressed on the fact that there was an urgent need to speed up the project.
"It is the responsibility of the officials concerned to complete the project soon so that city residents do not face any hassle," the minister said.
The minister has got the project report completed in this connection.
"A decision has been taken that the construction of roads under this project will be done by the municipal corporation. The MC will construct the road no matter which department it belongs to. This will not only help in better coordination but also provide respite to people," he said.
During the meeting, the local bodies minister also asked the officials of sewerage department to lay a bigger sewerage in Civil Lines, Circular Road and the stretch between the Customs Chowk and Fatehgarh Churian Road.
Municipal commissioner DPS Kharbanda along with the officials of water supply and sewerage departments assured the minister that the work will be finished soon for public convenience.
The minister said a regular review of the project would be done and those found on wrong side would face action.
