On Teacher's Day on Thursday (September 5), members of the Democratic Teachers' Front of Punjab will burn effigies of the Punjab government at the district level. "Owing to wrong policies of the Punjab government, teachers have not been paid their salaries for the past three months," front's press secretary Amarjit Shastri stated here on Friday. "Every category of employees in the education department was in financial crisis, since the state government hasn't released the dearness-allowance instalment and the pay-commission-recommended arrears amounting to Rs. 2,800 crore," he added.
