Gang of vehicles lifters busted, six arrested

In a major break through, the Batala police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of vehicles lifters with the arrest of six of its members and recovered 15 stolen motorcycles and one car from their possession.

Giving information, SHO at the Civil Lines police station Gurbhinder Singh said acting on secret information, a police team laid a naka near Dhoopsari village and apprehended six persons coming in an Indigo car during the checking.

During questioning, the accused failed to show any documents related to the car and purportedly confessed that they had stolen the car, the SHO said.

Police also recovered 15 motorcycles from the accused - identified as Surjit Singh, alias, Baba, of Rasulpur village; Ranjit Singh, alias, Rana, of Mirpur village; Tarsem Singh, Ashok Masih and Darbara, all residents of Bhaini Mian Khan; and Anokh Singh of Fatehgarh Churrian, he added.

The SHO further said the accused had purportedly admitted that they had stolen another Indigo Car that they had deserted in Gurdaspur area.

A case under Sections 401,379,411, 148,148 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused at the Civil Lines police station.
