GNDU planning school gives presentation on city's traffic situation

The Guru Ramdas School of Planning of Guru Nanak Dev University made a presentation on the holy city's traffic situation on Wednesday. 


Departmental head Balvinder Singh along with assistant professor Sunanda made the powerpoint presentation, during which various issues related to crucial junctions such as Chheharta chowk opposite GNDU, Putlighar Chowk, Railway Station, Queens Road junction, SSSS Chowk and Bhandari bridge, India Gate and Ram Tirth junctions, Ajnala Road junction were highlighted on the basis of traffic volume surveys done by students of BTech Urban and Regional Planning.

Long- and short-term solutions were also suggested to overcome the identified traffic problems.

The presentation was followed by a brainstorming session in which deputy commissioner of police Dr Kaustab Sharma, ACP Dr Ketan Patil, Surinder Singh Amritsar municipal corporation assistant commissioner BS Sekhon and KS Sandhu participated.

Balvinder Singh concluded that there was immediate need to introduce public transport system, remove encroachments, put direction and traffic signages at proper places and strict enforcement of traffic rules.
