The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) chief and revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia has questioned the Congress leaders who were asking the SAD-BJP alliance to clarify its stand on the death sentence to Balwant Singh Rajoana in the Beant Singh assassination case.

"The Congress has no right to ask the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) or the BJP to clarify their stands on the Rajoana case when the PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh himself had stated that he was against the death penalty to Rajoana. In fact Amarinder supported SAD in the assembly last year when the hanging of Rajoana had become an almost certainty," Majithia told reporters here on Sunday on the sidelines of a function.

On the execution of Afzal Guru, the YAD president described it as "a belated but welcome step". He felt that the UPA-government should have taken the step much earlier as Guru was involved in a heinous crime.

'SAD will win Moga bypoll'
Expressing confidence over the victory of SAD in the Moga bypoll, Majithia was of the opinion that his party's candidate Joginderpal Jain had in no way betrayed the electorate of the assembly constituency who had elected him twice. In this context he maintained that Jain upheld democratic norms as he quit his assembly membership and thereafter joined SAD.

"Jain was unhappy with the Congress and the style of functioning of its leadership, so he decided to quit. He saw that the future of Punjab was safe in the hands of SAD, which was committed to development and progress," he added.

On the charge of electronic voting machines (EVMs) being 'doctored' to suit the ruling party, Majithia claimed that the victory of Jain was a foregone conclusion, only the margin matters now. "Even if the Congress brings their own EVMs,  the outcome of Moga bypoll will not change," he added.
