A jatha of Sikhs from Mumbai will fly to Amritsar on a chartered flight to take part in the Panthic convention scheduled to be held at the Manji Sahib Dewan Hall at the Golden Temple complex here on July 27.

This information was given through mail on Wednesday by Gurinder Singh Bawa, a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) from Mumbai. He will be leading the jatha.

Bawa claimed that the Sikhs of Mumbai had decided to rally behind the SAD as they considered the Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) as the supreme religious bodies of the community. He appealed to the Sikhs of Haryana not to support the creation of a separate gurdwara body for their state and asked them to rally behind the Akal Takht and the SGPC.

Bawa also hit out at the Congress for trying to create a wedge in the Sikh community by enacting a law for the formation of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
