Interesting constituency facts:

*Je jeeve pat lathi jaye” (Life is not worth living if one loses his self-esteem). This message from Gurbani can be heard these days in village after village around this town as Harminder Singh Gill campaigns in this constituency.

*SAD candidate Ranjit Singh Brahmpura is also named  'Majhe da Sher'.

*Simranjeet Singh Mann has left his long demand of separate state, named Khalistan and now adopted the drugs issue this poll season.

*On a charge of treason, Simranjeet Singh Mann was detained for five years and was released unconditionally three days after winning the December 1989 parliamentary elections, all charges dropped. Interestingly,  Mann, who contested this election from Bhagalpur Jail, had won with a record margin of 4.6-lakh votes (he polled 5.33 lakh) without stepping into the area even once.

*Simranjeet Singh Mann did not oath as MP in 1989, as he insisted on taking his kirpan into the House but was disallowed.

*Despite being brother-in-law of Congress Candidate from Amritsar and former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh (Capt's wife Preneet Kaur's real sister is married to Mann), Simranjeet Singh Mann is the president of the outfit SAD (Amritsar).

*Congress candidate Harminder Singh Gill had been president of All India Sikh Student Federation( AISSF) and had been jailed from 1984 to 1989.

*Belonging to Gurbani Kirtan Maryada (he is 13-generation exponent), Bhai Baldeep Singh revived musical instruments of Sikh gurus and crafted them. He has won several awards, including the Bhai Rattan Singh Memorial award.
