The report of the five-member panel — set up by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) — that inquired into the clash inside the Golden Temple complex during the Operation Bluestar anniversary on June 6, will be submitted to Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Wednesday.

The panel had submitted its report to SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar last week. He will now hand it over to the jathedar.

When asked by the media whether he favoured pardoning those involved in the clash, Makkar said here on Tuesday, “It will be for the Akal Takht to decide as the probe panel was formed on the jathedar’s directions. However, if the jathedar tells us to withdraw the case, we will do so.”

The 22 persons who were arrested in the case have already agreed to undergo any religious punishment that would be awarded by the Takht for having breached the maryada (tradition) by indulging in violence inside the shrine. This was conveyed to the jathedar by relatives of those arrested.

The first hearing of the case has been fixed for July 5.
