ASI Harbans Singh of A-division police station, who is investigating the case, said that in her complaint, the woman had alleged that she got married to the accused in August 2010 and threw her out of the house later.

"The complainant said she moved a local court, which directed the accused to pay her Rs. 12,000. She added that on the accused's promise to take her back, she withdrew the case on January 3," said the ASI.

He added that the complainant had charged her husband with raping her on January 10 and snatching Rs. 35,000 and her mobile phone from her on January 17.

"The complainant said the accused refused to entertain any phone calls from her and also did not allow her to enter his house on February 20," the ASI said, adding that the matter is being investigated.

In another case, the Amritsar city police have booked one Varundeep Deol, a resident of Ranjit Avenue, on charges of misbehaving with a woman. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 354/506/323 of the IPC at Civil Lines police station on the complaint of the woman.

Sub-inspector Balwant Singh of Civil Lines police station, who is investigating the case, said the complainant had alleged that the accused used to tease her and had called her from her office after threatening her.

"She alleged that the accused asked her to watch a movie with him. When she refused, he behaved in a vulgar manner and beat her up," the police officer said. He added that people intervened and rescued the woman when she raised a cry for help. The matter is being investigated, he said.
