The Amritsar City Police have booked Sonu, a resident of Dhapai village, on charges of raping a woman for more than two years after promising marriage to her.
The now-married woman had approached the police after the accused asked her to leave her husband and threatened to kill her and send her MMS, which he had made while allegedly raping her two-and-a-half years ago at Dharamshala, to his friends, besides posting it on the Internet.
A case has been registered against the accused under sthe IPC and the IT Act, on the complaint of the woman, at C division police station. However, the police are yet to arrest the accused.
Sources said the accused was already married when he first met the woman more than two years ago. Inspector Iqbal Singh, SHO, C division police station, who is investigating the matter, said the woman, in the complaint lodged with the police, had alleged that it was a chance meeting between her and the accused nearly two-and-a-half years ago at Chheharta, and the accused told her that he was a moneyed man, who wanted to marry her.
"The complainant has further alleged that the accused took her to Dharamshala nearly two-and-a-half years ago where he raped her after giving her some toxic substance in a cold drink and made an MMS. The accused then brought her to Amritsar and told her that they had got married," said the SHO.
He maintained that the complainant had charged the accused with raping her at different places in Amritsar. "The complainant has alleged that she ceased her relations with the accused a year ago and got married to Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar, and started living in a rented house with her husband at Guru Nanakpura. "The accused saw her at Islamabad Chowk and asked her to meet him," he said.
The accused allegedly asked the woman to leave her husband and when she refused to comply with his wishes, the accused reportedly threatened to murder her and to send the MMS to his friends besides posting it on the Internet.
"The woman has also charged the accused with sending the MMS to the boys of her locality," said Inspector Iqbal Singh. He added that the case was being investigated and efforts were being made to arrest the accused, who was at large.
