Man commits suicide; kin booked

Fed up with threats from a moneylender from whom he had borrowed money, a resident of Murgi Mohalla locality allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Saturday night.


Station house officer, Civil Lines police, KP Singh said victim Kunan Singh's wife Ranjit Kaur, in her statement to police, said her husband who was a rickshaw puller had borrowed some money from one Mohan Singh.

She alleged that though they had already returned the borrowed amount, Mohan Singh and his family would often come to their house and demand more money from them.

Unable to bear constant nagging, Kunan Singh consumed some poisonous substance on Saturday. He was rushed to the local civil hospital but in view of his critical condition doctors referred him to Guru Nanak Hospital, Amritsar, where he died late Saturday night.

On the statement of Ranjit Kaur, the police have registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Mohan Singh, his wife Kashmir Kaur, their son Shemsher Singh and nephew Harwant Singh.
