The police have registered a case of murder against six people after a man was killed over a minor dispute at Thatha village in the Lopoke area on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Jagdeep Singh and the Amritsar (rural) police have arrested Ranjit Singh, Sukhdeep Singh, Malkit Singh, Chamel Singh, Anoop Singh and Inder Singh in connection with the murder.

In his complaint to police, the victim's brother, Major Singh, claimed that, "They were going on a tractor-trolley to somewhere and parked their vehicle at a place. In the meantime, one Ranjit Singh came on his cart from the opposite direction and asked us to move the tractor-trolley aside. I told him to move his cart to an empty place there."

A minor altercation ensued, Major Singh said, adding that when they were going to police station to sort out the matter, the accused stopped them and threatened to teach them a lesson. "They held up arms of my brother and Sukhdeep Singh stabbed him with a knife," he added.

Jagdeep was rushed to a hospital in Amritsar where he died.

A case under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered at Lopoke police station. No arrest has been made so far.
