Minor siblings drowned in village pond

A girl (6) and her brother (4) drowned in a pond behind their house at Chhek Bhatti village in the district on Tuesday.

The victims, Priya and Jashandeep, children of daily-wagers, were playing near the pond while their parents were away at work. Inspector Ravinder Singh, SHO of Ajnala police station, said, "They slipped and fell into the 10-foot pond.

The villagers, who were nearby, rushed to their rescue and took out the boy but were not able to retrieve the girl." The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he died later, the SHO said. The police have started a probe under Section 174 of the CrPC.
