President Pranab Mukherjee was accorded a warm welcome during his brief halt at the Pathankot airbase on Wednesday.

Punjab industries and commerce minister Madan Mohal Mittal, on behalf of the state government, greeted the President as he landed from a special aircraft of Indian Air Force on the Pathankot airbase.

Mukherjee was scheduled to change his aircraft at the Pathankot airbase from where he was flown to Gaggal airport in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. High security arrangements were made in the town, including aerial surveillance through a chopper, ahead of his visit.

The road route from Pathankot to Shahpur in Kangra district, where Mukherjee was scheduled to attend a convocation function, was also put under high security as several top officials had to travel through the road. SSP Pathankot Rakesh Kaushal was overseeing the security arrangements in the town.
