Pulse polio drive kicks off in city

Under the national immunisation round of the World Health Organisation, a pulse polio drive was kicked off on Sunday. Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi inaugurated the drive at Bhai Dharam Singh Satellite Hospital by administering polio drops to a newborn, while chief parliamentary secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu launched the drive at the community health centre in Verka.


The drive is being held from January 20 to 22 for children in the age group of zero to five years. Speaking on the occasion, Joshi urged all the residents of the district to ensure that their children are administered the vaccine. Dr Sidhu said the contribution of every individual was needed to eradicate polio.

Civil surgeon Dr Yash Mitra said that 1,70,149 children were administered polio drops by 2,855 teams at 1,472 booths. District immunisation officer Dr Rajan Verma said that 59 transit booths and 57 mobile booths had been set up.
