The Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) on Monday said large-scale corruption in politics and rising drug abuse in Punjab had left a demoralising effect on the youth.
SYP, the youth wing of Dal Khalsa, favoured reservation to economically weaker sections of the society, irrespective of caste. They observed that as Jat Sikhs enjoy higher status in the social hierarchy, the economic criteria should be made the basis for reservation and not caste.
Earlier, the members of the working committee nominated Noblejeet Singh to head the body for a period of one year and made certain appointments to streamline its working.
The delegates from various districts of the state attended the meet and dwelt on the need of channelising the youth energy in a right direction.
Noblejeet said their thrust would be on grooming new faces in politics. Sudeep Singh, a a senior member of the organisation, said systematic awareness would be created among the youth.
