Pakistan Rangers on Thursday denied the reported seizure of a rocket and explosives from a Pakistani village near the border, even as the Border Security Force (BSF) have heightened security at the Attari retreat ceremony and the integrated check post (ICP).

The Rangers made this claim during the flag meeting with BSF officials at Attari on Thursday evening.

Talking to HT, BSF inspector general (IG), Punjab frontier, Aditya Mishra said, "After getting an intelligence input, we had requested for a flag meeting. But the Rangers have denied any such seizure. This was expected from them, but we are not taking our input lightly."

The BSF had got the input that Pakistani forces had recovered a makeshift rocket launcher, battery and explosives from Dayal village, about 4 km from the international border."Considering the seizure input, there is a threat to the ICP and the retreat ceremony area.

Accordingly, we have strengthened deployment," Mishra added. In 2009 and 2010, there had been rocket strikes from across the border. A couple of rockets had fallen in Indian villages, while one had landed in the Kahangarh post of the BSF. No loss of life had been reported. At that time, the BSF had retaliated by firing at Pakistani posts.
