After the cross-border buses, the Samjhauta Express train to Pakistan has got extra protection in view of the tension on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.

Police have also started patrolling the tracks before the train passes various locations. When the train reached the Attari railway station from Pakistan on Monday, they climbed on board quickly, and with the help of metal detectors and sniffer dogs, scanned each compartment and every kind of luggage.

"After tension mounted on the LoC, we received instructions to heighten the train's security," said inspector Gurdial Singh of the railway police. "From 14, we had to almost double the strength of the inspection team. We are checking every compartment comprehensively and patrolling the tracks also."

Even the customs department has started examining the luggage and the train more closely. Even otherwise, the Samjhauta Express is always under the scanner, as weapons and drugs have been seized from it in the past.

People do get tense after incidents on the LoC. It is for the governments to ensure peace. We the common people can only pray that all remains well.

Peace is the only way forward. Nothing will be gained from tensionhttp://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2013/8/arshad_compressed.jpg

It is very unfortunate that tension has mounted between the two countries again. There is a need to get united and fight the forces that disturb peace
