A woman, aged around 40, on Saturday approached the National Commission for SC/ ST vice-chairman, Raj Kumar Verka, seeking justice in connection with her case pertaining to sexual harassment by the judge of a local court.

The victim, a peon, and Verka demanded that the case be heard by a fast track court.

"The case is around three years old and is sub-judice. However, I gave her a hearing on humanitarian grounds even as the case does not fall in my purview," said Verka.

He said the woman, a widow, had earlier charged a judge posted in a court here for sexually harassing her.
"The woman has alleged that the judge called her to his house and asked her to massage his feet. Thereafter, he allegedly misbehaved with her. When she objected to this, he threatened to get her dismissed from her job. The victim then approached court," he said.

Later, the accused judge got her suspended on the charges of not wearing proper uniform," Verka added.
"I shall write to the chief justice of Punjab and Haryana high court to put the case before a fast track court so that justice can be done at the earliest," he said.

Unplanned divider ruins charm of McLeod Road

Morning walkers in the holy city have lost what was, perhaps, their last remaining favourite road.
An unplanned concrete divider has killed the beauty of Mcleod Road running along the Government College for Girls (GCG). The strolls over there used to be smooth, as the road used to be wide and traffic-free. The median has brought in potholes, logjams, and encroachment.
