Six men have been arrested on allegations of having raped a 29-year-old woman from Ghukla village in Kahnuwan sub-division of Gurdaspur after forcibly taking her to an unknown location on Friday night, police said on Saturday.

The woman was returning to her in-laws' house in Ghukla in a bus from her paternal village Jagatpur, 45km away from Pathankot district, on Friday night when the bus driver Daler Singh and conductor Ravi did not stop the bus and instead forcibly took her another 22km to Gurdaspur, police said.

The duo then allegedly took her on a motorcycle to an unknown place, where five of their friends joined them, and from there she was taken to a house where she was gangraped, it is alleged.

The victim told the cops that Daler dropped her off near her in-laws' village the next morning from where she walked home, and then came to the police station at Kahnuwan to register the complaint.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajjit Singh said that after medical examination confirmed rape, a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code was registered and six of the accused arrested.

The arrested men are Daler of Bhittewal, Ravi of Sahaipur, Jaswinder Singh alias Sunny of Ladhupur village, Jagpreet Singh alias Raju, Gora of Ghorewah village and Satwant Singh alias Jassa of Jagowal Bangar. Teams have been constituted to arrest the one accused at large.
