She was heading home on bicycle from a gurdwara when they waylaid her and committed the crime. They took the Class-8 student to a secluded place and took turns raping her.

Accused Gurjant Singh and Sahib Singh of Naushera Pannuan, are under arrest and police have registered a case against the remaining four as well at Sarhali and begun a hunt for them. The victim is from another village.

It took almost a week for the case to come to light becasue the girl took her time in mustering the courage to speak up about it. Her parents then approached the police, later. "The case is based on the victim's complaint. Efforts are on to identify and trace the other accused," said Sarabjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Sarhali.

On August 23, a student, 22, was kidnapped and raped in Tarn Taran district; and on July 7, a Class-9 student was kidnapped and raped by two youths at Dhotta village in the district when she was on her way to school.
