Surjit Academy emerges winner in hockey tourney

Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar, emerged champion in the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Junior Gold Cup Hockey Tournament by defeating Sports School, Jalandhar, by a margin of 1-0.


Even as both the teams exhibited great stick work, the Surjit Academy started with aggressive raids right from the start and took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Shamsher Singh scored a goal.

After this, the Sports School, Jalandhar, made efforts to strike but a strong defence was put by the Surjit Academy.

Meanwhile, in the girls' section, Punjab XI team defeated the Pakistan Punjab XI team by a margin of 1-0. The Punjab XI got the lead early when Mandeep scored in the 10th minute of the game.

Olympian Dhanraj Pillai was present on the occasion and gave away the awards to the winning team.
