Two gangs of thieves busted; 6 held with cash, jewellery

The Pathankot police on Saturday claimed to have cracked two major theft cases in which gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs were stolen by two gangs. Six people have been arrested while more arrests are expected soon, police said.

In a press conference, SSP Rakesh Kaushal said the police had increased vigil after Kamaljit Singh of Saili Kulian complained of a theft of 400 gm gold, 3.5 kg silver, a laptop from his house on February 28.

The SSP said a police team on Saturday arrested Anurag Chauhan from Bhadrya locality where he and his friend Abhishek from Patel Nagar had burgled the complainant's house. After the police quizzed them, the duo admitted having stolen the ornaments which later were recovered, the SSP added. The estimated cost of the recovered articles is about Rs. 16 lakh, he said.

The SSP further said another police team arrested four persons at a naka near Khaddi bridge in which 152.30 gm gold, silver ornaments worth Rs. 6 lakh were recovered.

He said the accused have been identified as Ajay Singh, Lakhvinder Singh, Sheetal Kumar and Paras Thakur. Further investigations are on, he added.
