Two held with opium and poppy husk

District police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two men with 450 grams of opium and 11.5 quintals of poppy husk from their possession.


Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, SSP Sukhwant Singh Gill said that on receiving reliable input,a special naka, led by SP (D) Jagjit Singh Saroa, was laid on Mukerian-Gurdaspur road at Dauwal village under Purana Shalla police station.

A truck (PB 07 T 1095) was stopped and searched. The police recovered 46 bags containing 11.5 quintals of poppy husk and 450 grams of opium from the vehicle. Gill said that a case under sections 18,15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the truck driver, identified as  Jagmohan Singh alias Sonu, a resident of  Dasuya(Hoshiarpur district) and his accomplice Tarwinder Singh alias Raju, a resident of Hardo Nek village of Dasuya (Hoshiarpur) at the Purana Shalla police station.

Gill said that the arrested accused disclosed that they used to smuggle narcotics from Jharkhand to Punjab.
