The Batala police have arrested two brothers who were hired by an England-based NRI to terrorise his father-in-law following a matrimonial dispute.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Sekhwan police station SHO Sukhpal Singh said that acting on a tip-off, a police team under ASI Ranjodh Singh laid a naka near Bhagi Nangal village and during checking, they apprehended Nirwail Singh alias Nehla and Nirmal Singh alias Nima, residents of Waryam Nangal village, with a .315-bore rifle and six live cartridges.
During their interrogation, the accused confessed that on the night of March 7, they had fired some bullets at the house of Ajit Singh in Jaito Sarja village with a motive to terrorise him at the instance of his England-based son-in-law Harwinder Singh alias Kala, a native of Akalgarh Dhupai village. Harwinder had hired the two brothers through his cousin Navdeep Singh alias Navi after a dispute with his wife Amandeep Kaur. He had paid them Rs. 50,000 for firing at the house of Ajit Singh, who had lodged a police complaint against him for troubling Amandeep.
The SHO said the two brothers were notorious criminals wanted in connection with at least six cases at various police stations.
