The 350th foundation day celebrations of Anandpur Sahib kicked off with an 'akhand path' at historic Gurdwara Bhora Sahib on Monday.
Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh performed an 'ardas' before the beginning of the 'path'.
The 'bhog' would be held on June 17 following which a three-day religious programme would take off.
Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, SGPC members Amarjit Singh Chawla and Ajmer Singh Khera,Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib manager Sukhwinder Singh Grewal and head granthi Giani Sukhwinder Singh were among others present on the occasion.
A nagar kirtan (religious procession) was taken out by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) members who arrived from Delhi. DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK also participated in the 'nagar kirtan'.
Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's not coming for the foundation day function, the preparations for the grand event are on in full swing.
The Punjab government and SGPC have pulled out all stops to make the function a grand success. The entire town has been being painted white with decorations at many places.
District Blood Donors Society, Rupnagar, and Samaj Sudhar Manch, Punjab, have started a blood donation camp at Anandpur Sahib. The camp would continue for five days. A mobile blood donation van was flagged off for the purpose by Cheema at Rupnagar.
