Foiling yet another bid to smuggle contraband from across the border, vigilant Indian customs officials on Wednesday seized 10 kg heroin worth Rs 50 crore in the international market from a Pakistani goods train that arrived here.

The contraband was hidden in a wagon loaded with cement imported from Pakistan.Addressing media persons here, deputy commissioner of customs, Vijay Bahadur Singh, said, "After a Pakistani goods train reached the rail cargo terminal in Amritsar, customs staff checked it thoroughly and found a black packet hidden between cement bags." The officials found heroin in the packet, he added.

Singh said that they were in the process of finding out for whom this consignment was meant for.
In the recent past also, heroin has been seized from freight trains that cross over into India from Pakistan.
