Another Akali MLA revolts over ticket denial: Ghuriana from Balluana will fight against party nominee

After a meeting with supporters at his residence, the three-time MLA commented, “The SAD leadership has asked me to pray to God for a better future. Now, I ask them to do that.” He said, “I will contest the poll but further strategy will be disclosed only after consultation with my supporters.”

Denied the assembly poll ticket this time, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Gurtej Singh Ghuriana from Balluana, in Fazilka district, on Wednesday announced to contest against the party’s nominee Parkash Singh Bhatti, who was earlier in the Congress.

Ghuriana is the eight SAD MLA to have revolted or left the party in the run-up to the polls due early next year. Only on Tuesday, two Akali MLAs from Moga district joined the Congress.

After a meeting with supporters at his residence in Abohar, 15km from Balluana, the three-time MLA commented, “The SAD leadership has asked me to pray to God for a better future. Now, I ask them to do that.” He said, “I will contest the poll but further strategy will be disclosed only after consultation with my supporters.”

The Balluana contest as such now becomes murkier. While Bhatti is contesting as a turncoat, the 2012 Congress nominee, Giriraj Rajora, had got the AAP ticket this time, only to be withdrawn by the party later.
