The accused have been identified as Lalit Kumar of Rajesh Nagar, his brothers Matty and Babbal, and his relatives Sapna, Geeta, Sukhi, Poonam, Bani, Gattu, Vijay Sabharwal, Beant Kaur and Guddi.
It is the second such incident in three days as on Saturday, a similar incident was reported outside the district courts when family members of a woman had attacked her husband after they got married against their wish.
A case in the Monday case was registered following the statement of Naresh Kumar of Rajesh Nagar, who is an employee of homeguard department.
In his complaint, Naresh said his son Ajay Kumar, 25, had solemnised love marriage with Visakha of the same colony in February against the will of both the families.
He added that they later approved their relationship, but Visakha’s parents did not and kept on threatening them. Afraid of the threats, they left their house and started living somewhere else in a rented accommodation.
On Monday, Naresh along with his wife Geeta Kalyan went to their old house to get some clothes. The accused, who were following them, turned up there and thrashed them with sticks and bricks. They did not let them enter their house. They fled from the spot after a crowd gathered there, hearing the screams.
The division number 4 police registered a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (PC) against 12 persons, including six women.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gurpreet Singh, who is investigating the matter, said the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
SATURDAY’S ASSAULT: 2 MORE ACCUSED HELD
In the case of honour assault reported on March 18, the police on Tuesday arrested two more accused in the case, including a minor, taking the total arrests to five.
The 17-year-old was produced before a juvenile court and was ordered to be sent to a juvenile home. The other accused has been identified as Ankit Kumar of Shimlapuri. Till now, the police have arrested five accused including Amandeep Kaur, her son Jashanjot Singh and neighbour Kiranjit Kaur. The accused, on March 18, had assaulted Pankaj Kumar Sharma outside court complex with sharp-edged weapons and hammer.
The minor, who is resident of Giaspura flats, told police that he is a rag picker and was in contact with Jashanjot, who had met him at his home and convinced him to accompany him as they were going to assault Pankaj, who had solemnised love marriage with his sister.
The police have also identified other accused who were involved in the crime as Soni alias Chhindi, Jashanjot’s uncle Darshan Singh and cousin Deepa.
ASI Daljit Singh, incharge at Kochar market police post said the police arrested the accused from different locations following a tip off. He added that hunt is on for the rest of the accused.
