Another life cut short in road mishap

Navneet Kaur, 16, who was injured seriously in the hit-and-run accident on Friday, died at the DMC Hospital on Saturday morning.

Her friend, who was also injured in the mishap, Komal Preet Kaur is stated to be stable.

Model Town police have registered a case against unidentified car driver on the statement of Komal Preet Kaur. The police have recovered a broken piece of the number plate of the car involved in the accident which took place in the Model Town Extension area on Friday.

The police also came to know that the front windowpane of the car was broken in the accident.

Navneet's father Sarabjit Singh was in an inconsolable condition. He was staring at the sky with
moist eyes slamming god for the catastrophe the family had been forced to bear. Sarabjit Singh is a clerk in a school.

"She was a bright student and committed towards her studies. I was at school when I came to know that Navneet had met with an accident. I immediately rushed to the hospital when Komal Preet's father told me that both girls have been admitted to the DMCH," Sarabjit said.

"She was lone girl child in the family and was being loved by all. The financial condition of the family was not sound, but I was ready to do anything possible to make her pursue her studies. She does not deserves an untimely death," Sarabjit added.

It has been learnt an overspeeding car hit Navneet and Komal Preet on Friday when they were going to take tuitions. The car has hit an MC employee too. However, the car driver managed to flee the spot after the accident.

Inspector Ashok Kumar, station house officer of the Model Town police station, said the police had been investigating in the matter. The police have recovered some pieces of number plate of the car and we were trying hard to locate the car and its driver.

Unaware about friend's death
Komal Preet is not aware about the death of her friend Navneet Kaur. The family has told Komal that Navneet is fine and has been admitted to another ward.

"We are afraid that the tragedy could be unbearable for Komal. They were childhood friends and persuaded their studies together. After metric they have taken admission in commerce in Class 11. Both girls used to go to school and tuitions together," said Sukhwinder Singh Grewal, father of Komal Preet.
