A bundle of at least 15 answersheets of a Panjab University (PU) exam have been stolen from Ravneet Chawla, an assistant professor in psychology at Government Home Science College, Sector 10, who had been given the bundle for evaluation.

In her complaint that led to an FIR under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code, Chawla has said the crime occurred at her college on May 15. Given the secrecy that surrounds the evaluation procedure, all that is known about the answersheets is that these were of a post-graduate course; Chawala could not be contacted.

PU examination controller Parvinder Singh said he was not in the know but would now look into it. "Neither Chawla nor anyone else from her college has approached the university. It is a serious issue, though," he said.

On how the bundles are assigned, Singh said, "Our messengers go personally and deliver the bundles to the subject expert only."

Home science college principal Madhu Nanda said, "I am aware of the issue, but this is a personal matter between the university and the person who has been sent the answersheets for checking."
