After a long wait finally former agriculture minister Tota Singh's son Barjinder Singh Brar succeeded to get the chairmanship of Punjab State Health Systems Corporation on Wednesday. While the supporters of Tota Singh listened Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's announcement about the appointment of Barjinder Singh Brar, they came out their houses and distributed sweeta across the all areas of Moga.
Though the state government has also appointed local MLA Joginderpal Jain as chairman of Punjab Warehousing Corporation, however, the supporters of Jain could not joy this moment compared to Barjinder Singh Brar's supporters.
It may be mentioned here that even as former agriculture minister Tota Singh lost his ministry due to a court case against him, his rivals have failed to dent his political influence in Moga assembly constituency. After shifting Tota Singh to Dharamkot constituency, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) fielded former director general of police PS Gill from Moga and after him, Akali MLA Joginder Pal Jain, but both failed to break Barjinder Singh Brar's political stronghold. The officials of various departments are apparently closer to Barjinder Singh Brar Singh than Akali MLA Jain and Gill in Moga.
The fact that favoured Barjinder Singh Brar was that Jain had allegedly opposed the upgrade of Moga municipal council to a corporation, while the former agriculture minister Tota Singh and his son Barjinder Singh Brar worked for it. Barjinder Singh Brar succeeded in keeping his political cadre and worker with him in Moga constituency and used his political stronghold to get done the works of his supporters in Moga constituency.
"I have been working with Moga people for the 17 years and I am always available. I have brought many development projects to Moga but no other Akali or Congress leader did so. In the field of education my father Tota Singh upgraded 90% schools of the district. In power sector, I got established over 40 power grids. I also got set up 106 purchase centres and 6 mandi yards for farmers in Moga area," said Barjinder Singh Brar.
"I used my ability and being in power I used it confidently to ask officer concerned to do the work. Now the chief minister provided me chairmanship of the Punjab Health Systems Corporation, I will do this job with full responsibility," he added.
