Kesar Singh Ladi, the loyal armed sewadar of Namdhari sect matriarch Chand Kaur for the past 11 years who used to carry a gun for her safety, was on leave the day (Monday) she was shot dead by two motorbike-borne assailants.

With police not ruling out the possibility of an ‘insider’ being involved, Ladi’s absence from duty on that day has raised a question mark.

Ladi, however, said he was aghast when he received the news of Chand Kaur’s murder.

“I had been serving her for the past 11 years. I used to carry a weapon, but she used to tell me that she feels safe and doesn’t need any security,” he said.

Satguru Uday Singh’s sewadar Kartar Singh was driving the electronic golf cart when Chand Kaur was shot dead. Kartar is a crucial eyewitness and the complainant in the case.

Meanwhile, Namdhari sect head Satguru Uday Singh on Wednesday alleged that Dalip Singh was an obvious suspect in the murder. “This is the third attack on us in the past five years and who else could be the interested party,” Uday Singh told reporters after meeting director general of police Suresh Arora at Bhaini Sahib.
