The police have booked an army captain and his parents on the charge of abetment to suicide after his wife ended her life at their residence in the Abohar cantonment on Tuesday.

Capt Sandeep Tomar, who belongs to Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), married Shveta Singh, a native of Lucknow, in February. It is learnt that their marriage had been rocky from the beginning.

On Tuesday morning, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan. The captain took her to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead, said Varinder Singh Brar, superintendent of police (SP), Abohar.

The body was handed over to her parents, who took it to Lucknow for the last rites, the SP added.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the family of the deceased, a case under Section 304-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the captain and his parents. No arrest has been made so far.

When contacted, Col SD Goswami, defence public relations officer (PRO), said the army would extend full cooperation to the police to ascertain the truth in this case.
