A resident of Ghanupur Kale village on the outskirts of the city was allegedly murdered on Friday by two fellow villagers with whom he had a land dispute.

Harjinder Singh was shot at and killed by Gurdip Singh and Bittu Nihang at his house in the village. The two fled after firing at him from a rifle.

On the statement of the victim's widow, Sukhwinder Kaur, the police registered a case under sections 380 and 34 of the IPC and the Arms Act against the two accused. On her statement, the police also booked Manjit Singh, a resident of Darshan Singh Avenue and a serving army personnel, whose service rifle was used in the murder.

She alleged in her complaint that Manjit Singh did not keep his service rifle in a safe place in his house. She claimed that Gurdip and Bittu stole the rifle for committing the murder.

The police after registering the case at the Chheharatta police station have begun investigations, on the basis of which a case of murder may be registered.
