Articles worth lakhs destroyed as fire guts 2 cloth shops

Articles worth lakhs were gutted in fire incidents at two cloth shops in Gandhi Nagar near Salem Tabri on Saturday night.

Fire broke out at Seema Collection and Sonu Garments around 11.50 pm on Saturday. It was learnt that the fire had started from Seema Collection.

A Seema Collection employee said a loss in lakhs is expected as stock stored on the first floor of the shop was also gutted. He said the exact loss was yet to be ascertained. Two floors of the building were completely destroyed due to the fire.

Before the fire brigade vehicles reached the spot, the fire had spread to a nearby shop.

According to a fire official, they took around threes hours to douse the fire and five fire tenders were sent to the spot.

Assistant divisional fire officer Bhupinder Singh said the exact cause of fire was not clear as yet.

In a separate incident, a truck at Lalton village on the Pakhowal Road was gutted in fire on the same night.

The assistant divisional fire officer said a truck also caught fire near Lalton village and they managed the situation timely in both the incidents.
