In a bid to fulfil a promise made to the people of Amritsar after he was repeatedly termed an outsider, BJP candidate Arun Jaitley is all set to buy a house in Amritsar.
"I am finalising the deal. My family members have already seen the house and approved it," Jaitley told HT. He did not, however, share the address and cost. Sources said the house is in the Civil Lines area.
As soon as he had kicked off his campaign in Amritsar, from where he makes his poll debut, Jaitley had promised to set up a residential and official base in the constituency. His wife belongs to Amritsar and he has relatives living here.
"I had said I will set up my residential base here. That prompted me to buy a house. The office will be operated from the party office at Khanna Smarak."
"A house was needed anyway since this is my constituency and I am here to live," he added.
At present, Jaitley, who is pitted against Congress stalwart Capt Amarinder Singh, is operating as a stopgap arrangement from a house in the Lawrence Road area.
