Senior Congress leader and Dhuri MLA, on Sunday, extended support to the agitating students of various industrial training institutes (ITIs) in the state. He said demands of the students were genuine and the government did not require too much to fulfil them.
In a statement issued here, Khanna said, "All the demands, including payment of scholarship, adequate teaching staff and better drinking water and toilet facilities, are genuine as these facilities are basic requirements of any institution of learning." He said, "It was surprising that students had to resort to an agitation for these basic facilities."
The Congress leader said, "There was an urgent need to modernise the ITIs across the state so that they can impart the training according to modern-day needs. The idea and purpose behind setting up these institutes was to make youth competent for jobs and, at the same time, provide trained manpower to the industry."
He said, "It is unfortunate that students of these institutions had to resort to an agitation to get the facilities things they should have been provided in a routine manner," he said.
