An assistant sub-inspector was allegedly assaulted on Saturday night by the SAD candidate along with his supporters after the police official argued with some Akali workers over some issue.

According to information, SAD candidate Amrik Singh from Fatehpur block Samiti zone allegedly thrashed ASI Dalel Singh around a polling booth at Fatehpur village.

District Youth Congress president Gurpreet Singh Vicky said, “ASI Dalel Singh was thrashed and beaten up by supporters of SAD after he prevented them from entering and standing near the booth. Akali workers captured polling booths at Heerokalan, Bakhsiwala and other villages but no action has been taken against them.”

Mansa DSP Sulakhan Singh, however, denied booth capturing in Heerokalan and said, “Nothing of that sort happened and only a voter was asked to bring some ID proof.”

Superintendent of police (headquarters) Rajeshwar Singh Sidhu said, “Medical examination of ASI Dalel Singh was done and he was suspended after the reports confirmed he was drunk on duty on Saturday. The Akali candidate had complained that ASI had misbehaved with him and other supporters. Further investigations are on.”
