Assault on PCR cops; one held

A man, along with his unidentified accomplices, attacked a police control room (PCR) motorcycle squad, allegedly with an intention to kill them, in New Aman Nagar area on Wednesday evening.

The accused tore cops uniforms and also broke their wireless sets.

Following the statement of head constable Yunis Masih, the Salem Tabri police have registered a case under sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police have booked Sunny Kumar, resident of New Aman Nagar, while cops say his four unidentified accomplices are at large.
In his complaint, Yunis Masih said he along with constable Bikramjit Singh was on a patrolling duty on Wednesday. On intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, they received a call from the police control room that some people had entered into a scuffle in New Aman Nagar area. As they reached the spot, Sunny and his accomplices attacked them with sharp-edged weapons.

Assistant sub-inspector Mukhwinder Singh, who is investigating the matter, said cops had launched a manhunt for the arrest the absconded accused.
