Former Bholath MLA Sukhpal Khaira has demanded an unconditional apology from cabinet minister of local bodies, Chuni Lal Bhagat for publically assaulting and manhandling of Malerkotla municipal council president Mohammad Sardar Dara by Akali goons in his presence.

In a press release issued here today, he said that this bizarre incident only spoke of the utter disrespect, humiliation and vindictive attitude of the SAD-BJP government and that too in the presence of the senior minister.

"It has also vindicated beyond doubt our allegations of vendetta and partisan attitude of the Badal government," he added.

Malerkotla municipal council president Mohammad Sardar Dara was manhandled by the workers and leaders present on the occasion when he raised his voice against handing over the cheque for development to SAD MLA Farzana Alam during a function organised at Jalandhar Red Cross Bhawan to distribute cheques worth Rs 410 crores to elected representatives of the local bodies of the state.

"Instead of presenting the cheque of MC Malerkotla to its president Sh. Dara who was duly invited by the director local bodies, the minister opted to hand it over to the local MLA Smt Farzana. Adopting double standards at the function itself the cheque of Bhadaur municipal committee was handed over to its Akali president, while congress MLA Sh. Mohammad Sidique was present at the occasion," he claimed.

He asked president PPCC Amarninder Singh and the leader of the CLP Sunil Jakhar to launch a committed agitation on the issue to force the government to act against the Akali goons, who acted at the behest of the minister.

"On behalf of the Congress party, we demand an unconditional apology from the minister and registration of criminal case against the Akali 'Goondas' Shakar Ali MC, Kewal Krishan MC and Asif Qureshi MC, failing which we would 'gherao' the minister in public," he declared.
