Following a call by the state sector bank employees association (SSBEA), hundreds of bank staffers on Wednesday staged a protest against what they said was State Bank of India (SBI's) "discriminatory attitude" towards the associate banks.

Joint secretary of all India bank employees association (AIBEA), SK Gautam, said the SBI management has been denying employees of the associate banks facilities like housing and car loans besides over-draft limit.

"These benefits are being provided to all SBI staff, but only officer-level staff of the associate banks," he said.

"Moreover, the policies of SBI management in view of the merger of associate banks are detrimental to the progress of the associate banks. So, we have been demanding that associate banks be delinked from SBI," Gautam added.

Jagdish Sharma, president of the all India state bank of Patiala (SBOP) employees union called the SBI management's attitude "unfortunate and discriminatory".

Meanwhile, the bank associations have threatened to hold a strike on February 23 in case the SBI management did not agree to come to the table over the issues.
