Associate banks to observe nation-wide strike on June 4

Following a call by the state sector bank employees association (SSBEA), the employees of several banks held demonstration in front of the head office of State Bank of Patiala, here on Thursday. The association also decided to go on nation-wide strike on June 4 over the non fulfillment of their long pending demands.

Following a call by the state sector bank employees association (SSBEA), the employees of several banks held demonstration in front of the head office of State Bank of Patiala, here on Thursday. The association also decided to go on nation-wide strike on June 4 over the non fulfillment of their long pending demands.

Addressing the gathering, SK Gautam, joint secretary of all India bank employees association (AIBEA), said the State Bank of India management were trying to impose service conditions on the employees of associate banks by imposing its carrier progression scheme.

"The general benefits have been increased in case of SBI employees, including officers, but it is being denied to the employees of associate banks," he said.

He added that the associate banks should be delinked from SBI so that these banks might be allowed to play its role in their region where they were performing better.

"The conditions of associate banks are deteriorating due to indifferent policies of SBI management. The compassionate appointment scheme has also been distorted, while the recruitment of part time workers and sub staff has not being made till date," he said.

He informed that in case the issues were not resolved on June 4, a one-day strike would be observed throughout the country on June 24 as well.

The employees were demanding de-linking associate banks from SBI, to stop curbing trade union right of representation, to extend compassionate appointment scheme as per the government guidelines, to increase quantum of staff housing loan, to stop imposing SBI service condition and career progression in associate banks and to enhance overdraft limits.
